My name is Ryan, I've been teaching drums in the Phoenix community for the last 10 years. I feel proud that every one of my students would say they have a better understanding of their instrument, regardless of the duration of my instruction. In my teaching I will improve the students technique and creativity while introducing many diverse styles. We will focus specifically on the most important skills and concepts a student needs to be able to play proficiently and musically. This will be through the use of proper technique and providing clear information and explanation of theory so the student can gain facility and understand how parts are constructed from a writing stand point. Scales, progression, harmonizing improvising and sight reading will be demonstrated and explained. I will also use creative exercises to have the student play parts that they can call there own. I will introduce the rudiments and how they might be applied in the form of exercises, grooves, and fills. R&B, Funk, and Rock will be covered so that the student can grasp a feel of straight 8th and 16th note patterns. Blues, Shuffle, and Jazz will be covered so that the student can get a feel on grooves that are based on triplets (3's).
