It measures approximately 1 1/8 inches x 7/8 inches. It comes with a very large bail and is surrounded by stones of citrine, orange calcite, and amethyst. This lovely piece comes with a long 30 inch chain so that it can easily slip over your head. It is in excellent condition. The Greek origin of the word jasper, iaspis, means "spotted stone." This form of semiprecious chalcedony, or microcrystalline quartz, is usually red, brown or green. Its patterns are much less regular and defined than those of the other chalcedony variety, agate. Another difference between the two is that jaspers are generally opaque, while agates tend to be translucent (or at least contain translucent bands).
