this is an image of the presidio county courthouse located at the head of the main drag in marfa, texas. the west texas desert! shot on a recent trip (may 2008) with my Yashica-A. once it's printed, the colors will be more saturated and deep. medium format, baby! print measures 5"x5" square. a bit of history: built in 1885 and magnificently restored in 2001, this courthouse is one of West Texas's most impressive, with its magnificent domed roof and classical Victorian woodwork. the architectural style is Second Empire with Italianate details such as overhanging eaves, decorative brackets, and windows that delineate the floors. a "Statue of Justice" stands atop the dome, sans the traditional scales. according to local legend, a convicted cowboy shot the scales out of the statue's hands in the 1890s, proclaiming, "There is no justice in this country." print is signed and dated on back, and will ship in a clear protective acid-free bag with backing board. this image is not matted or framed. | Price: $12.00

this is an image of the courtyard area and fountain located inside the historic hotel paisano in marfa, texas. the scan does not come close to showing how beautiful this will look once printed on metallic paper! shot on a recent trip (may 2008) with my Yashica-A. medium format, baby! print measures 5"x5" square. a bit of history: the Hotel Paisano was built by Charles Bassett of El Paso and opened in June 1930. the Paisano was for the most part a cattleman's hotel for its first 40 years. ranchers from all over the area had business meetings here and bought and sold their herds from the lobby of the hotel. the railroad depot was two blocks away so many rail travelers stopped in for a night in their travels between California and San Antonio. in 1955 Warner Brothers chose Marfa as the location for the filming of the epic movie Giant. in June of that year the cast and crew including James Dean, Elizabeth Taylor and Rock Hudson made the hotel their headquarters. | Price: $12.00
